Behrend, Herbert "Bert"

Herbert "Bert" Frederick Behrend, 93, Wisconsin Rapids, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 26th at Saratoga Moravian Church. Rev. Aden Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery in the Town of Saratoga. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 25th at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the church.

Herbert was born in the Town of Grand Rapids on March 9, 1920 to Herman and Gertrude (Kasdorf) Behrend. He married Betty Rickhoff on June 16, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. She died on September 29, 2009.

Herbert was employed by Consolidated Papers, Inc. starting at the Wisconsin Rapids Division and transferring to the Biron Division. He owned and operated a small dairy farm in Town of Saratoga, retiring from farming in 1982.

Herbert was a faithful member of Saratoga Moravian Church for many years. He was a hard worker who loved the outdoors. Farming was the love of his life. He farmed the homestead, taking it over at a young age when his father was killed by a lightning strike.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Denny Nelson, Buffalo, MN; son: Melvin Behrend, Wisconsin Rapids; son and daughter-in-law: Dale and Connie Behrend, Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Michelle (Wade) Erickson, Sherry (Jeff Dumonceaux), Jonathan (Amy) Nelson, Katherine (Travis) Grimm, Kimberly Laux, Elizabeth Behrend, Tina (Mark) Selby, Greg Behrend, Jason Behrend; great-grandchildren: Adrianna and Spencer Erickson, Brandi and Trenton Nelson, Xavier and Zaden Laux, Ava Dumonceaux, Gavin and Aven Mertin; one brother: John (Joanne) Behrend, Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters-in-law: Lucille Behrend of Wisconsin Rapids and Ruth Behrend of Watertown, both of Wisconsin Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers: Earl and Wilbur; and sisters: Ruby Eberhardt, Lilah Hoffman, Mildred Miller and Marie Knipple.
