Herman Kummer, 91, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Ariz.
Herman was born Sept. 4, 1921, in the town of Richfield to Ernest and Marjorie Kummer. He received his education at Maple Grove School. Herman married Irma Horn on Sept. 9, 1944, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pittsville, Wis.
Herman farmed with his father, worked as a self-employed milk truck hauler for Whitehouse and Sanna Dairies, and then worked at Sanna / Beatrice / Kerry in Vesper until his retirement. For a short time later he worked at Felker Brothers in Marshfield.
In 1986, he and his wife Irma moved to Florida but spent summers back in Wisconsin visiting their son, family, and friends. In Florida, he drove for a rock hauling company. In 1996, they moved to Arizona. In 1999, they moved back to Florida. Shortly after his wife of 55 years, Irma, passed away May 3, 2000, he moved with his daughter and her family back to Phoenix, Arizona.
Herman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittsville, Wis.
He is survived by one son, Marvin (Carol) Kummer, Pittsville; and one daughter, Jean (William) Strout, Phoenix Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Eric (Jenny) Kummer, Jay (Molly) Kummer, Lee Kummer (special friend, Stephanie), Kelly (Brandon) Gronau, Lori (Rudy) Casarez, Michelle Permann (fiance, Billy), Mark (Rosemarie) Strout, Georgia Sebring, Brian (Linda) Strout, and Jeff (Lana) Strout. There are also 17 great-grandchildren.
Herman is survived by a sister, Marieta Kummer, brother-in-law, Bill Laidlaw, and sister-in-law, Helen Gansch.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Irma, brothers, Fred and Ernest Jr, sisters, Marian Leach, Ada Laidlaw, and Viola Miller as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Irvin and Elsie Hendrickson, Lynn and Leona Vanderwalker, and Carl and Doris Karloske.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittsville, Wis., at 1 p.m. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:30 until the time of the service.
