John "Jack" O'Day passed away on Tuesday morning December 11th. Jack was born on October 19th, 1924 to John and Cecil (Parameter) O'Day Sr. He graduated from Lincoln High School and then attended Wood County Normal School (Teachers College) were he met his future wife Anola Williams from Manawa. They were married on January 30th, 1947 in Manawa during a snowstorm.
Jack Joined the Marines Recon. Division and received the Purple Heart while serving at Iwo Jima and Saipan.
After returning to the states, Dad started his autobody career at Sparhawk Autobody, then the Buick Garage before starting Jack's Body Shop in 1964. He ran Jack's Body Shop with three of his sons and retired in 1992 passing the business to his sons. Jack was instrumental in starting the Central Wisconsin Autobody Union
where he served as president. He was a member of the Elks and D.A.V.
He and Anola loved to travel. They made 34 trips to Ireland and also loved to travel rto Portugal and Jamaica. He purchased the O'Dea Castle in Ireland in 1969 and Oversaw the restoration of the castle. He was anointed a "Knight of Ennisfullen" in Ireland.
Jack has six children: Bill, Fay, Kathie and Ralph Thomas, Sally and Craig Brockman, Grady and Carol (Andrae), John and Kris (Knorr), and Kelly and Lorie (Fahl). He has 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Anola, parents John and Cecil, and brother Jim.
Visitation will be at Higgins Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids Thursday December 13, 2012 from 4 - 8pm. The funeral will be at St. Vincent de Paul on Friday, December 14th, with visitation from 9-10am with the service to follow.
