1944 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Giese, Kim

Kim A. Giese

(In his own words)

I, Kim A. Giese was born the second son of Orie V. and Myrtle E. Giese at 9:08 am on Monday, January 31, 1944, at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. It was on February 28, 2013, that I began my journey to the Great Beyond.

My education started in 1951 at the Two Mile School; continued through Lincoln High School (class of 1962) and continued with a Bachelor of Science degree from Wisconsin State University - Stevens Point in June 1967. Not long after graduation my notice came for induction into military service. By December of 1967, I was in Vietnam assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile).

Upon returning from active duty, I entered the field of banking; being employed at Wood County National Bank and then First National Bank of Stevens Point. It was at this time I earned a degree from the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

My marriage to Susan M. Vakoc took place in July of 1973. That relationship eventually faded into us becoming life-long friends and sometimes adversaries.

My father was a musician. I, too, became a musician at an early age; becoming active in several local and area bands performing on either lead guitar or bass guitar. As life goes, some of these experiences were great; others were not so great….ah, the life of a musician.

In addition of playing guitar and listening to music, my time was spent biking, walking and with various crafty-type hobbies. Doing research on the computer and traveling were also enjoyable pastimes.

All - in- all, I have had a good life; full of the ordinary, the not so ordinary and surprises that could not have been imagined ahead of time. Being blessed with many long-time friends has meant more to me than any of my material possessions. Hopefully, you who are reading this memoir can someday honestly say the same.

My parents and older brother, Gene, preceded me in death and now I have gone to join them. In doing so, my good friends at the Higgins Funeral Home have seen to my final wishes and placement of my remains in the Giese family plot in Forest Hill Cemetery.

So, as my time on this earth has come to an end, I must say good-bye to all my friends, acquaintances and those I never had a chance to meet. As someone once said to me: "We make plans and God smiles."

May I eternally rest in peace.

A committal service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Forest Hill Cemetery. Wisconsin Rapids VFW will be performing the military honors.

Higgins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
