Roman was born Feb. 28, 1922 on the family farm in Rudolph, to Gustav and Mary (Zimmerman) Korslin. He attended St. Peter and Paul grade school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1940.
He stayed and worked on the family farm during World War II because of poor eyesight.
Roman married, Germaine Kempen, the girl of his dreams, that made the best chocolate cake on May 4, 1946 in Rudolph. Seven long years later, in 1952, the first son was born, followed by four more and then a girl. Roman and Germaine built their own house out of timber from the Mosquito Creek bottom, sawing the logs with a 2 man cross cut saw.
Roman worked at the Biron paper mill, retiring in 1984. He often took jars of his wife's best homemade canned pickles and some of her homemade sweets to work and shared them with other workers. Roman also operated a small farm for many years. He was a simple man, who enjoyed a little fishing, deer hunting, gardening and making wood to heat the family home. He enjoyed staying close to home along Mosquito Creek, which was rightly named. He loved his pinch of chew and smoking his pipe almost as much as he loved his family. In later years he sat near the house on the corner of Reddin Road and "P" and waved at everyone that drove by. He always said waving didn't cost anything and he enjoyed it. He was also in charge of dandelion patrol, picking as many as 1,000 per day.
Roman is survived by his wife, Germaine; six children, Kirk (Pattie) Korslin of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Alan (Dawn) Korslin of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Doug (Anne) Korslin of Rudolph, WI, Todd (Janet) Korslin of Rudolph, WI, Lance (Lisa) Korslin of Nekoosa, WI and Marilee Piesik of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Roman was preceded in death by his parents, his father, Gustav in 1974 and his mother, Mary in 1989.
