Walter B. Nelson, 93, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2013 at Wisconsin Rapids Nursing Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 3, 1920 in Arpin, Wisconsin to Carl and Mabel (Baker) Nelson. From September 1942 to January 1946 he served his country in the Army. He is WWII veteran and was stationed in the Pacific theater. After his military service he returned to Wisconsin Rapids and worked for 25 years as a truck driver for C.W. Transport.
He married Betty Adams on September 4, 1948. She preceded him in death. He married LaVada Morris (Korte) on July 27, 1985 in Wisconsin Rapids who also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his two sons; James (Marilyn) Nelson, Wis. Rapids; Rodney (Nancy) Nelson, Wis. Rapids; one daughter; Alison (Steve) Baker, Kansas City, MO., one step-daughter; La Raine Morris, Sun City, AZ., one step-son; Gareld (Sara) Morris, a special friend; Lynn Panek, Sun City, AZ., one sister Beulah (Allan) Ryan, Chicago, IL., 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Lucy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives Betty and LaVada, two brothers, Jim and Ben, three sisters, Anges Strange, Mildred Hegerty and Violet Bynum.
A special thank you to all the waiters and waitresses at Perkins & Olympic who always made Walter feel far more than just a customer.
Services will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on June 19, 2013, with visitation from 9:00 am until 11:00am with an 11:00 service with Chaplin Dave Baker officiating. A committal will follow at Restlawn Cemetery with military Honors.
