Haumschild, Lawrence John

Lawrence John Haumschild, 96 of Nekoosa passed away peacefully at his home at the Retirement Home of Nekoosa with family at his bedside on June 6, 2014. He was born January 9, 1918 in Milladore, WI to John and Emma (Lilly) Haumschild. He attended school in Milladore. He served proudly in the U.S. 11th Corp of engineer on the Pan American Highway 2years and then he was assigned to West Point for 2 years as a shooting instructor.

He married Irene Mayer on Aug. 12, 1947. They spent most of their married life in the Arpin area. Lawrence worked for Kellogg Lumber and also was the Postmaster in Arpin for 24 years, retiring in 1983. Lawrence enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work, playing cards and epically his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Irene of 67 years and one son Dr. Daniel (Carol) Haumschild, daughter-in-law Virginia Haumschild and sister-in-law Ruth Haumschild, Milladore. Also 5 grandchildren, Tara (Lance) Fellman, MN, Eric (Mandy) Haumschild, SD, Sean Haumschild, MN, Kristin Haumschild, OH and Steven Haumschild, HI. 4 great-grandchildren; Jason and Katelynn Haumschild, Spencer and Cooper Fellman.

Lawrence also is survived by 2 brothers; Ed (Shirley) Haumschild, Marshfield and Donald (Sandy) Haumschild, Casco, 1 sister Marie Dineen, St. Nazianz.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Dr. Ronald Haumschild and 2 brothers John, Jr. and Ervin Haumschild.

Funeral Services will be held at Saint Alexanders Catholic Church in Port Edwards with Father Swing officiating on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at 11:00 with a visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be held on June 10, 2014 at Higgins Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Burial to take place at Central Wisconsin Veterens Home in King, WI at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Alexanders Catholic Church in Lawrence's name. Family would also like to extend a special Thank you to Dr. Craig Flinders, Heartland Hospice and Nekoosa Retirement Community Staff for the wonderful care they gave to Lawrence.
