I was born on June 6, 1942 to Henry and Mary (Reddin) Ticknor. I graduated from Assumption High School in 1960. I joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1961-1965 and was stationed on the USS Bayfield (named after Bayfield County, WI).
After leaving the Navy I had various jobs- Haupt Well & Pump, Tork Trucking and Excavating, Allied Chemical, Dana Machine, CW Transport, Sparhawk Body, Green Bay & Western Railroad and finally Rapids Welders Supply. Here I began as a truck driver and then worked my way into sales and finally manager.
In 1982 I left to start Ticknor Welding Supply. It was a success and Randall-Graw Co. bought it and I remained on as manager until 1998 when I left to start a new venture, Ticknor Welded Specialties. And then-I retired in 2005-went to work for Dave Tork- work-fun-work and more fun.
I married (I kept my maiden name) the girl of my dreams, Pat, on May 15, 2008. Can only be described as a life of bliss. A total pleasure to live with.
I am survived by my wife, partner, friend and lover, Pat. I am also survived by the following: Leann Ticknor of Black Mountain, NC, Mark (Sandi) Ticknor of Stevens Point, WI and Kathy (Mike) Ernst of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; grandchildren, Ray and Julia Ernst, both of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; two stepchildren, Taylor (Nathan) Tramp and their son, Josh of Crofton, NE and Andrew (Amy Kesteloot) Dreesen of Tyndall, SD.
I've had a good life, worked hard, had some fun, made a few mistakes (some twice) and all in all I have no regrets. Life is here to live and I've done that.
I have become more like myself every year and on occasion I colored outside the lines.
Ritchay Funeral home is handling all arrangements.
