Grace Sydanmaa Obituary
Sydanmaa, Grace

Grace Sydanmaa, a long-time resident of Wisconsin Rapids, left this earthly life on Saturday April 13, 2013 to join her Savior and family in heavenly life. She was born Grace Ann Krzykowski on February 23, 1922 to John and Selma (Cypress) Krzykowski on the family farm in Sigel, WI. She passed away while living with her daughter in Alpharetta, GA.

Grace married Melvin W. Peters on June 23, 1945 and they had five children. Melvin died September 2, 1982. In 1985 she married Wallace "Wally" E. Sydanmaa and shared many happy years until his death in 1993.

Grace was the first in her family of 11 to attend and graduate from Lincoln High School in 1940. She worked as a beautician for 45 years at Johnson Hills, Mi Lady's and Barnitz beauty salons, giving the ladies of the area pretty hair. Grace was a member of the Wisconsin Hairdressers Association and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. A longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, she held memberships in the Rosary Society and Parish Council of Catholic Women. She particularly enjoyed volunteering at the weekly Lenten fish fries.

She loved to cook, fish and play golf, was a great card player and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also loved polka music and was very proud of her Polish heritage which she instilled in her children. An outstanding mother and role model for her children, one of her favorite sayings was, "Ever notice how in every family there is one person who is shockingly normal? We should get ourselves one of those."

She was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, and a son, James A. Peters.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters Cynthia (James) Patterson of West Monroe, LA, Karen (Ed) Cadaret of Alpharetta, GA, Mary (Jerry) Joyce of Madison, WI, Jennifer (Steve) Noyes of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Crystal Patterson of West Monroe, LA, Dr. Jared (Susan) Patterson of Memphis, TN, Melissa (Gary) Witte of Kennesaw, GA, Julie (Dave) Cureton of Alpharetta, GA, Kelly Peters of Portland, OR, Tammy Peters of Northville, MI, Bridgit Peters of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Kristin Joyce of New Haven, CT, Jessica Joyce of Madison, WI, Angie Noyes of Sioux Falls, SD and Carly Noyes of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren Will, Clay, and John David Patterson of Memphis, TN, Alexandria, Livianna and Christian Capatina of Northville, MI, Jaylen Fischer of Wisconsin Rapids, Eleni Witte of Kennesaw, GA, Clara and Elise Cureton of Alpharetta, GA; as well as several nieces and nephews.
