Lawrence J. Shillius, age 91, of Port Edwards, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Nekoosa United Church of Christ. Rev. Timothy Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Village of Port Edwards Cemetery with military rites by Wisconsin Rapids American Legion Post 9. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM. until 7:00 PM. at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa and Tuesday at the church from 10 AM until the time of service. Lawrence was born June 10, 1922 in Port Edwards to Charles and Emma (Putchin) Shillius. He married Dorothy Winkler on December 11, 1948 in Wisconsin Rapids. Lawrence served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the Wisconsin Rapids American Legion Post 9 and recently flew to Washington D.C. as part of the Honors Flight Program.

Lawrence truly loved farming and operating heavy equipment. He owned and operated Shillius Trucking and Lime Service. He also owned and operated his own farm in the town of Port Edwards.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Donna Shillius Allison of Nekoosa and Diane Kreuser of Port Edwards; three grandchildren, Jason (April) Lindholm, Jeff Lindholm and Jessica (Adam) Farragut; four great grandchildren, Justin, Peyton, Madeline and Kaileigh; two nephews, Harland (Ann) Stone of Rutledge, GA and Lawrence (Terry) Stone of Orland Park, IL; and special friends and "sons at heart", Ron (Sue) Akey and their children, Christie and Jeremy of Wisconsin Rapids and Jerry (Patti) Bartlett of Necedah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lorraine Hodgson and Emily Sommerfield, and one brother, Charles Shillius, Jr.
