Myrna Gillam Wells, 74, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2014.

She was born on July 29, 1939, a daughter of Robert and Edith Gillam of Speers Road, Wilmington, Ohio. She graduated from Port William High School in the Class of 1957.

She is survived by a daughter, Ariadne Owen of Mooresville; and two sisters, Wanda Gillam Parks of West Jefferson, Ohio, and Judith Gillam of Wilmington.

A brother, Donald Gillam, is deceased.

Myrna obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati, having previously attended Ohio State University, where she met and married Carlyle Wells. Myrna became a professional artist, specializing in portraits, and was also an accomplished pianist. She owned and operated a flower shop in Wilmington, where she also displayed and sold her paintings.

Later, she sold her flower shop to pursue her passion for painting diverse people and capturing their hearts and spirits on canvas. This calling led her to travel around the U.S., for about 12 years, creating portraits and quick sketches at Renaissance festivals.

Myrna was a person of many talents and will be greatly missed among family and friends.
