Richard Lee Payne, 88, of Wilmington, passed away on Monday evening, April 14, 2014.
He was born on June 9, 1925 in Hamilton, a son of the late Harvey and Jeannete McFarland Payne. On Jan. 17, 1953, he married Jeanette Mary Simon Payne, who passed away on Aug. 5, 2003.
A veteran of World War II who was in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Payne retired from DP&L as the Wilmington Area District Manager. He was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church, the Wilmington American Legion Post 49 and the Wilmington VFW Post 6710.
Surviving are his sons, Michael (Cindy) Payne of Wilmington, Patrick (Pamela) Payne of Stanley, N.C. and Stephen (Emily) Payne of Wilmington; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene (Happy) Payne of New Bern, N.C.; and a sister, Marsha (Ted) Serrer of Huber Heights.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Payne.
The funeral service will be held noon Thursday, April 17 at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locust St. at North Mulberry Street in Wilmington. Deacon Robert Baker will officiate. An entombment will follow in the David's Cemetery in Kettering.
