Herbert Edward Shaper Jr., 81, of Crawfordville, Fla., passed away Aug. 15, 2014 in Panama City, Fla., at the Clifford C. Sims State Veterans' Nursing Home.
A son of the late Herbert E. Shaper Sr. and the late Doratha Mildred Fanning Shaper, he was born June 23, 1933 in Dayton.
He was always very proud of his honorable service in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge, he received his first class broadcast engineering license, and established an FM radio station, FM102.3, in Wilmington. He was also an engineer for WHIO in Dayton and chief broadcast engineer and director of engineering for Channels 27 and 40 in Tallahassee, Fla. He was also active in HAM Radio.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his yard and doing family geneology.
He is survived by his sons, James Edward Shaper and Thomas William Shaper; wife, Linda; their children, Keely and Matthew; daughters, Susan (James) Lee Shaper Wolcott and their children, J. Parker, T. Alex and J. Wesley; Mary Ann Shaper and her son, Mario Joseph; great-grandchildren, Kaelin and William.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 58 years, Ann Maurine Williams Shaper.
The funeral is 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 at Abbey Funeral Home, 4037 North Monroe St., Tallahassee, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at the funeral home.
