Steven Richard Overbeck 59, was called home by his Lord and Savior on July 27, 2015 after a courageous battle with lung cancer, having never been a smoker. He died peacefully in his home with his loving family and friends by his side.
Steve was born on April 10, 1956 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia to Jerry and Ruth Ann Overbeck and was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from Wicomico High School in Salisbury, Maryland in 1974. He attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology. He was a member of the archery team and held several state records. He attended U.S. Navy Aviation Officer Candidate School where he discovered his love for flying airplanes. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Commander and was a true officer and a gentlemen. Steve continued flying for Delta Airlines from 1986 until present.
Steve enjoyed archery since he was a young boy. His son, Jack, encouraged Steve to return to competition, and in 2011 he was gold medalist in the U.S. National Senior Games held in Houston. He was a level 3 NTS coach with USA Archery and the head coach at Woodlands JOAD. Jack is following in his father's footsteps and has received numerous awards under the loving direction of his father.
Steve had a gift for making each person feel like they were the most important in the room. His deep faith in Jesus Christ and radiant smile were contagious, and although his interests were many, his biggest passion was spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 21 years, Frannie (Davis) Overbeck, devoted son Jack Overbeck, faithful Golden Retriever Gus; Brothers Michael (Susan), David, Kevin (Ginny), Mark (Ikuto) and sister Susan (Kenny) Volker along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Steve's life will be held at The Woodlands United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10:00 am.

So sorry to lose Steve so soon. My condolences to his family. I would love to share some collegiate archery photos with his son if the family would PM me on Facebook with an address to which I could send them. I was his UT archery coach.

Used to work w/ Steve in the DC 10 simulator. A lovely fellow, and a pleasure to be around. Somewhat 'Texan'.
Like his pa, I too have a 'Mustang' m/c.
Had hi hopes of stopping in down there on 1 of my rides.
(Not on a Mustang).
I had thought of Steve often, and very sorry to lose him, way too soon.
Best Regards, Steve White

I know I speak for all of us in your Boy Scout extended family in sending our love and support during this sad and difficult time. Steve lit up a room whenever he entered and his light continues to shine in the love he shared with Frannie and Jack. We are all better for having known him.

So sorry to see Steve go, he really was a good man and a fellow Naval Aviator. He was one of four in my airline new hire class; I was blessed to have known him all these years.
We shall meet again but not just yet. My continued prayers for the family.

I remain very proud of Steve's good works as a coach. I taught and certified him as a Level III-NTS, and his expertise, compassion, empathy, and fundamental inner balance made him one of the best coaches I have had the pleasure to know. His legacy is many things, and includes living on in those archers he mentored.
