Preston Huard Carroll

Preston Huard Carroll, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away in Houston Texas on Thursday December 8, 2011. Preston was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 2, 1932. His parents were Raymond and Annie Carroll. On April 18, 1952, Preston married his best friend and love of his life, Lois Taylor, at the Taylor Tabernacle Church in San Antonio, Texas. The couple was married by Lois's father, the Reverend HB Taylor. Preston and Lois were happily married for 52 years until her death in September 2005. Preston and Lois lived in San Antonio, New Orleans, Irving, Atlanta, Cleveland, Chicago and Dallas and spent the last 28 years in the Woodlands where they were members of the Woodlands United Methodist Church.

Preston is survived by his daughters Elizabeth "Bizzy Anne" Lamb and son in law Steve and Prescilla "Little Buddy" Burnett and son in law Riley. Preston is also survived by his three grandchildren, Taylor Olivia Burnett, Benjamin James Burnett, and Elizabeth Cassandra Burnett who fondly knew him as their "Grampadora". Preston is also survived by his sister Barbara Anne Cheslyn of San Antonio, Texas

Preston loved his country and served overseas in the United States Army. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation he was hired by Shell Oil Company and retired as Senior Engineer of the Gulf Coast Region in 1999 after 38 years of service. During his years with Shell, Preston received numerous Laurel Awards for his invaluable work.

In his retirement, Preston enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family and friends at the family home on the Blanco river in Wimberley, Texas, and attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events. He also remained in contact with his friends and associates from Shell Oil enjoying their many activities and parties.

Preston was a proud Texas Longhorn. He was a loyal fan and Life Member of the University Of Texas Exes and a longtime UT foundation supporter. He attended UT football games since the late fifties and owned more burnt orange clothing than the Texas Co-op store.

Preston was an avid traveler, who enjoyed exploring the world with his family. He especially loved the annual summer family trips to Destin, Florida. He also traveled with his loving church family from the Woodlands United Methodist Church lead by Pastor and Mrs. Robb. Preston and his friends traveled to Ireland, Germany, and finally to Russia in June of this year.

Preston was a loving husband, wonderful parent, terrific grandparent, and a great friend to so many. He will be dearly missed by all.

Visitation will be held Monday December 12 from 6 to 8 PM at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 I-45 South, The Woodlands, Texas 77384. For directions call 936-273-4922. Preston was a generous man. His service work included volunteering for CASA of Montgomery County which is a voice for abused and neglected children.
