McNew Patsy Jean Smith McNew, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. She was a member of First Christian Church in Saltville. She moved to Baltimore, Md., in 1954 and returned to her home in 2001. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Virginia Smith; husband, James F. McNew; brother, Ed Smith; sister, Margaret Vaught; and grandson, Zachary Strzegowski. Survivors include son, James E. McNew of Glade Spring; daughter, Mary Strzegowski and husband, Dennis, of Maryland; three brothers, Miles Smith of Saltville, Thomas Smith of Glade Spring and Danny Smith of Saltville; three grandchildren, Andrea, Dennis Jr., and Matthew; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Collins, the Rev. Jerry Williams, and the Rev. Chuck Harris officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Rose Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
