Edna Ferguson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2010.
Edna C. Ferguson Edna Vilee Charlton Ferguson was a lifelong resident of Rocky Gap, the Dry Fork community, until December 2008 when she became a resident of Bland County Nursing and Rehab of Bastian. On Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, God decided to call her soul to eternal rest. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. at Tynes Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. Todd French Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Hogan Cemetery. She was the seventh child born to William A. and Harriet Elizabeth Stevens Charlton on April 24, 1915, in Rocky Gap. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She worked diligently for the Lord through the church and social organizations. Nothing meant more to her than God and her family. Her church and social affiliation included her membership at Tynes Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as an usher, social director, steward, choir member, teacher's aide at Rocky Gap Elementary School and board member of various organizations in the community. She worked and served all faithfully until her failing health prevented her participation. She was married to Andrew Ferguson of Rocky Gap. In addition to her parents and husband, preceding her in death were four sisters, Myrtle Charlton, Evelin Charlton, Gladys Gore and Sadie Saunders; and twin brothers, Jessie Cecil Charlton and Elder Eugene Charlton. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Stephanie Moore Ferguson of Rocky Gap; grandsons, Richard Ferguson Jr. of Rocky Gap and William Ferguson of Princeton, W.Va.; stepgrandchild, Kimberly Moore of Tazewell; great-grandson, Isaiah Ferguson; great-granddaughter, Jazmin Ferguson; great-stepgrandson, Jaden Prater; a brother, Nathaniel Charlton of Rocky Gap; a sister-in-law, Dorthea Ferguson of Rocky Gap; a brother-in-law, William "Bill" Ferguson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Highland Bland Funeral Chapel in Bland is in charge of the arrangements.
