Ellis Harding Layne

Ellis H. Layne Ellis Harding Layne, 78, of Wytheville went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Dr. Gary Houseman officiating. Interment will be in the Berea Christian Church Cemetery with American Legion Post 9 conducting military rites. He was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Bedford County and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Lillian Hamilton Layne; and several aunts, uncles and cousins, all of Bedford. Survivors include his wife, Ann Kegley Layne of Wytheville; a stepson and his wife, Gary and Cindy White of Wytheville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Preston and Judy Layne, Roger and Betty Lou Layne, all of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Edna Kegley of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Berea Christian Church Building Fund, c/o Betty Spraker, 265 Spraker Rd., Crockett, VA 24323. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
