Powers Franklin John Preston Powers, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Powers and Bonnie Wyatt Powers, and two sisters, Juanita Powers and Mamie Sawyers, and two brothers, Glen Powers and Gayther Powers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been a barber in Smyth and Washington counties for several years. He was of the Baptist faith, loved to play the guitar and was very knowledgeable of the Bible. Survivors include two children, Diana Powers and husband, Gerald, of Marion, Stephen Powers and wife, Angie, of Marion; sisters, special sister and caregiver, Faye Marie Dolinger of Chilhowie and Letha Gaye Doane of Chilhowie; stepchildren, Dreama Taylor Griffith of Glade Spring, David Randall Taylor of Manassas; mother of his children, Ruby Taylor Powers of Marion; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Powers Ball, Stephanie Ellis Poston, Jeremy Taylor, David Taylor, and Ashley Whitt; nieces, nephews and other family members; and special friend, Harry "Pee Wee" Bane Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Rev. Joe Powers officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grosses Creek Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667. Flowers were appreciated or memorial donations can be made to the Grosses Creek Baptist Cemetery, 250 Flat Woods Acres, Chilhowie, VA 24319. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
