Gilbert G. Carty Gilbert G. Carty, 55, of Wytheville died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011. A memorial service was held Sunday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Mack Taylor officiating. A graveside service was held Monday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry "Hess" and Ruth Sult Carty; and his mother-in-law, Frances B. Calfee. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Calfee Carty of the home; a daughter, Chelsea Carty of Wytheville; a son, Gilbert "Homer" Carty of Wytheville; father-in-law, William A. Calfee of Wytheville; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charlie Brown and Vanessa Calfee of Wytheville; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Blatterman of Roanoke and Becky Melton of Columbus, Ohio; uncle, Clarence Ray Carty of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; beloved pets, Bear, Rocky, Ruford and Tom; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
