Glada H. Goins Glada Helton Goins, 89, of Bland died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010. Funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Bland Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Kathy Haga and Dennis Moore officiating. A graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Bland Cemetery. She was born Nov. 7, 1920, in McDowell County, W.Va., daughter of the late John Henry and Mae Cook Helton. She was a member of the Bland-Leyburn Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, playing Bingo and NASCAR Racing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Robert Goins Sr.; a son, Victor "Sonny" Robert Goins Jr.; a daughter, Louise Nelson; four brothers; four sisters; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a great-great-grandchild. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Lillie Mae and Jerry Hayes of Dublin, Betty and Kenneth Carter of Bastian, Sharon and Mack Wolfe of Fairlawn; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. Sr. and Karen Goins of Mt. Airy, N.C., David L. and Barbara Goins of Wytheville, John F. and Kim Goins, Doug L. and Jenny Goins, all of Bland; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Goins of Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Walter Helton, Fletcher Helton and Harvey Dee Helton; three sisters, Flora Lee Marsh, Roberta Hutchins and Gaynell Key, all of North Carolina; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran-Presbyterian Fellowship Hall Fund, c/o John Goins, P.O. Box 192, Bland, VA 24315; or a charity of choice. Highland Bland Funeral Chapel in Bland was in charge of the arrangements.
