Ira Tiller Obituary

Tiller Ira Tiller Jr., 85, died on Oct. 28, 2010 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Leigh Archer; brothers, Emory Zed Tiller, Kenneth Eugene Tiller, C.B. Tiller and Stuart Tiller. He was a member of the Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge # 17, a volunteer of District Three, former board member of People Inc., member of the Blackwell Chapel UMC and very involved in the Clinchburg and Benhams Senior Citizens groups. Survivors include his wife, Ola Hurley Tiller; son, David Tiller of Edgewood, Md.; daughters, Sharon Jeanette Burton of Abingdon, Md., and Rebecca Ann Grimsley of Delta, Pa.; stepdaughters, Donna Shortt of Bristol and Diane Tiller of Meadowview; sister, Ilene Deel of Abingdon; several nieces and nephews; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m. at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Spence and the Rev. Roy Lee Sullivan officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Hills Cemetery. Family received friends from 6 \ until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. D.R. Henderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

I had the privilege of working with Ira Tiller for 30 years as a Federal Firefighter at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland. He was a wonderful friend. He will be missed.
