James M. Pruitt Sr.

Pruitt James M. Pruitt Sr., 69, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hayters Gap to the late Floyd William and Gaye Edna Anderson Pruitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wally Neal Pruitt. He was a dairy farmer. He had a passion for taking care of his cattle. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Shelby Pruitt of Sugar Grove; two sons, James Marshall Pruitt Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Catlett and Buddy Lee Pruitt of Catlett; three daughters, Shelia Shifflett Morrison and husband, Larry, of Marion, Shelley Pruitt and fianc‚, Mick Whitt, of Marion, and Patricia Johnson and husband, Terry, of Warrenton; two brothers, Floyd Roger Pruitt and wife, Cathy, of Elkwood and Charles Pruitt and wife, Ruby, of Bristol; five sisters, Jane Young of Culpeper, Mary Hicks of Culpeper, Wanda Smith of Manassas, Myrtle Ann Dick of Manassas and Lucy Morton of Norton; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other loving family members. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, from Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel of Marion. The family received friends on Friday from 7 until 9 p.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rich Valley.
