Joyce Geneva Chapman

Chapman Joyce Geneva Chapman, 65, of Sugar Grove died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010. She was born in Smyth County on Aug. 31, 1945, the daughter of the late Jessie Millard Combs and Hallie Elizabeth Orary Combs. She was preceded in death by a son, David Firestone Jr.; a sister, Pauline McFarland; and two brothers, Ralph Combs and Gale Combs. Survivors include her husband, John R. Chapman II of Sugar Grove; her children, Awackeo Glass of Max Meadows, Angela Lloyd of Gainesville, Ga., and Michael Shaw of Fairfax; a sister, June Glass of Fries; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Lindsey Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Tate officiating. A graveside committal service was conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until service time. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the family for funeral expenses. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, was in charge of arrangements.
