Lucy Groseclose "Granny" Dishner

Dishner Lucy Groseclose "Granny" Dishner, 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, in Marion with her family by her side. She was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Wythe County to the late John and Gracie Mae Umbarger Groseclose. She resided in Smyth County all of her adult life. She was a dedicated Christian and a dedicated member of Stone Memorial Park Chapel. She was a joy and delight to her family and friends. She was called Granny by many and will be missed by all. She worked at the hosiery mill in Marion but spent most of her life being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and dairy farmer. She helped establish Dishner Dairies. She also loved her flowers and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James C. Dishner; and several sisters and brothers. Survivors include two sons, James Dishner and wife, Thelma, of Salem and David Dishner of Marion; one daughter, Dianna Tibbs and husband, Philip, of Marion; two sisters, Minnie Uzzle of Mechanicsville and Josephine Pruner of Marion; one sister-in-law, Leona Preston of Marion; eight grandchildren, Jim Dishner of Salem, Jennifer Dishner of Roanoke, Tony Dishner and Lamar Garcia of Austin, Texas, Todd Dishner and wife, Sharon, of Marion, Julie Dunford of Marion, Jamie Hanshew of Marion, Jayson Tibbs and Keira Brinegar of Marion, and Joy Engstrom and husband, Carl, of Richmond; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler Dishner, Evan Dishner, Landon Hanshew, Lakken Hanshew, Hanna Engstrom, Carr Engstrom, Keagan Tibbs, Katie Dishner, Abbie Dishner and Molly Dunford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. John DiYorio and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family received friends on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
