Madeline P. Goodman

Goodman Madeline P. Goodman, 78, died on Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, in the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tenn. She was born in Smyth County to the late Charlie and Vita Brewer Poe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Dean Goodman; and three brothers, Larry, Ralph and Bill Poe. She was a lifetime member of Grosses Creek Baptist Church and was a supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital. She and her twin sister, Magdeline enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning together. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue Riley and husband, George, of Apopka, Fla.; her brothers, Carl Poe and family of Chilhowie, Robert Poe and family of Pearcy, Ariz., Dean Poe and family of Cooksville, Tenn., and Gerald Poe of Johnson City, Tenn.; her twin sister, Magdeline Elledge of Marion, her sisters, Mae West and family of Raleigh, N.C., Opal Doane and family of Chilhowie, Maxine Martin and family of Chilhowie, Linda Butler and family of Flint, Texas and Anna Jean Smith and family of Story, Ariz.; two special nieces, Freda Umberger of Dandridge, Tenn., and Charlene Terry of Wytheville; and a host of good friends. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Grosses Creek Baptist Church in Chilhowie. The family received friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the church. A graveside service was at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Grosses Creek Cemetery.
