Mardelia M. Mathews Mardelia Mae "Sissy" Mathews, 62, of Wytheville died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with Pastor Roger Crigger officiating. Interment will be private. She was born Feb. 25, 1948, in Wythe County, daughter of the late Leon and Nellie Wisley Mathews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Hancock; and two brothers, David Mathews and Jack Mathews. Survivors include a daughter, Bonita Gordon of Wytheville; four sisters, Rebecca Snavely of Wytheville, Mary Ann Burcham of Rural Retreat, Kay Mathews and Jane Mathews, both of Wytheville; four brothers, Bill Mathews of Chesterfield, Wayne Mathews of Charlotte, N.C., Ranzie Mathews of Fayetteville, N.C., and Fletcher Mathews of Indiana; three grandchildren, Laura Ward and Denise Hall, both of Rural Retreat, and Timothy Hall of Wytheville; three great-grandchildren, Austin "Buck" Six of Rural Retreat, Kearston Smith of Wytheville and Dalton Coleman of Rural Retreat; and many other relatives and special friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. (service time) at the funeral home. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
