Matthew Bouknight Obituary

Matthew Bouknight, 87, of Wytheville died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Revs. Samuel Patterson and Leonard Davis officiating. Interment will be Oakwood Cemetery with American Legion Post 9 conducting graveside military rites. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and was a veteran of U.S. Army having served in World War II. He worked at Bob Huff Chevrolet for several years. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Bouknight; a brother, Odell Bouknight; and uncle and aunt, Finley and Rose Carwell. Survivors include his wife, Velma Constance Bouknight of Wytheville; a daughter, Nannette Bouknight of Newport News; two grandchildren, Jenna Ramirez and Nora Latriece Bouknight; and very special friends, the Rev. Leonard and Carrie Davis, James St. Clair and Jackie Robinson. The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 12, from noon to 1 p.m. (service time) at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations for funeral expenses may be made to Nannette Bouknight, 462 Benbigh Blvd. 42, Newport News, VA 23608. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

Connie & Nannette:
I just heard about both Ronald and Matthew. I am so sorry. My thoughts and prayers and sincere condolences are with you both. You know how much I have always loved your whole family - you have been like family to me and always will be. Connie I hope you are well and be strong through all of this. Nannette I miss you very much and lost touch with you. I will be in touch soon.

No one could have had a better neighbor than Mr. Bouknight. He was a hard and dedicated worker in his church and community. Though he will surely be missed, he has completed his journey and is now in the presence of the Lord. My prayers are with Ms. Connie, Nannette and the children.
