Ronald K. Fariss Ronald Kyle Fariss, 65, of Austinville died Wednesday, Oct. 20. 2010. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. at the River of Life Ministries Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy with the Revs. Samuel Hall and Gary Vernon officiating. A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery. He was born July 10, 1945, in Wythe County, son of the late John Wade and Ester Smythers Fariss. He worked many years with the D.C. Transit in Washington, D.C., and as shop foreman for Taylor's Garage in Mt. Airy, N.C. He retired in 2010 from CenturyLink Telephone Co. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Fariss and Johnny Fariss. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Durham Fariss of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly F. and Thomas E. Reese Jr. of Wilmington, N.C., Cherie and Dean Rodgers of Mooresville, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian K. and Misty Fariss of Rockledge, Fla.; a stepdaughter and spouse, Heather and Andy Jones of Mt. Airy, N.C.; a stepson and spouse, Yancy J. and Jessica Simmons of Mt. Airy, N.C.; two sisters, Maxine Pickett of Austinville and Sandra Hall of Goldsboro, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Peggy Fariss of Alabama; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Oakley and Vanda Fariss of Flatwoods, Billy and Georgie Fariss of Max Meadows, Foye and Peggy Fariss of Roanoke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Wilma Durham of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The body will be taken to the church Saturday where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. (service time). Reese Funeral Home in Austinville is in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald and I was neighbors in Wythe County Virginia rode same school bus . He was a great friend. I use to spend the night with him when they moved to the flat woods area. Fantastic guy.

Ronald was a life long friend of mine . I haven't seen him in several years but , I never will forget the fun times we had growing up in the stumps community of wythe county . I will miss him . God bless the Fariss family at this sad time .
