Thomas Hayton Obituary

Thomas A. Hayton Sr. Thomas Andrew Hayton Sr., 81, of Wytheville died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010. Funeral service was held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Sharon Lutheran Cemetery at Ceres. He was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Ceres, son of the late James Cleveland and Nina Williams Hayton. He was retired from Montgomery County Schools in Rockville, Md., after serving for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with service in Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sawyers Hayton. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Michael R. Ireson and Lan of Lady Lake, Fla., Wanda G. Lyons and Bill of Lexington, S.C., Thomas A. Hayton Jr. of Wytheville, Joann Hayton and Andy of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, James C. "Junior" Hayton of Ceres; grandchildren, Kenny Lyons, Michelle Jones, Robin Lyons and Billy Lyons, all of Lexington, S.C., and Lance Corp. Michael Ireson, USMC, of Jacksonville, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren. On his behalf, the family thanks the staff on Unit B of Carrington Place at Wytheville for caring for him with love and compassion. He was a very special and kind person and will be missed by many. Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.
