Velma Beatrice Riffey

Riffey Velma Beatrice Conley Riffey, 85, formerly of Smyth County, died on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, in the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. She was born in Smyth County on July 18, 1925, to the late Ruth Conley. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Riffey; three sisters, Mae Riffey, Hazel Riffey and Nell Riffey; three brothers, Bill Conley, Little Buck Conley and Little Junior Conley; and a son-in-law, Albert Adams Sr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dundalk, Md., where she had resided for many years. Survivors include three sons, Paul Wayne Riffey and wife, Linda, of Essex, Md., William Eugene Riffey and wife, Linda, of Johnson City, Tenn., and David Michael Riffey and wife, Bren, of Wytheville; two daughters, Phoebe Catherine Adams and Betty June West and husband, Phillip, all of Dundalk, Md.; one brother, Jimmy Conley of Essex, Md.; four sisters, Peggy Green of Dundalk, Md., Betty Ann Scott of Dundalk, Md., Shirley Lilly of Graysonville, Md., and Jean Cline of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, from Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel (938 N. Main St., Marion, VA 24354) with Pastor Steve Hutton officiating. Interment will follow in Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Chilhowie. The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Marion.
