Velma C. Bouknight Velma Constance "Connie" Bouknight, 88, of Wytheville died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m. at the Bethel A.M.E. Church with the Revs. Samuel Patterson and Leonard Davis officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. She was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Salem and was a resident of Wytheville for 42 years coming from Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the dietary manager for Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville for 17 years. She was a long-standing and dedicated member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Bouknight; and a son, Ron Bouknight. Survivors include a daughter, Nannette Bouknight of Newport News; two grandchildren, Jenna and Latrice; and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. (service time) at the church. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
