Walter "Pete" Barr

Barr Walter "Pete" Barr, 74, died on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was born in Smyth County to the late McKinley R. Barr and Lora Mae Hamm Barr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Terry Barr; one grandson, Eric Barr; a sister, Juanita Wyatt, and one brother, James L. Barr. He had been employed at Buster Brown and was a member of Joy Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Carl Barr of Marion; one grandson, Jeremy Barr of Marion; three brothers, Alvin R. Barr of Petersburg, Ernest L. Barr of Chilhowie and Don Barr of Chilhowie; four sisters, Linda Stillwell of Glade Spring, Barbara Taylor of Rossville, Ga., Mary Evans of Stanley, N.C., and Brenda Crouse of Chilhowie; and a very special friend, Valerie Singleton of Abingdon. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, at Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Jim Lundy and the Rev. Jay Overbay officiating. Interment followed in Macedonia Church Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
