William Kelly Obituary

Kelly William C. "Bill" Kelly Sr., 85, died Dec. 25, 2010, at his home in Chilhowie. He was born on March 20, 1925 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a member of Chilhowie United Methodist Church and was a farmer and businessman. He served on various Virginia state agricultural boards, the Smyth County School Board, the Chilhowie Town Council, the Board of Directors of the Smyth County Community Hospital and served over 60 years as a member of the Chilhowie Lions Club. He was also an avid Hokie fan, golfer, and old-time fiddler. Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years, Eva Phipps Kelly; two daughters, Lynn Olmstead and Ann Kelly; one son, Will Kelly and wife, Robin West Kelly; two grandsons, Ryan and Chris Olmstead; one granddaughter, Andrea Ursel and husband, Nate Ursel; two great-granddaughters, Shelby Olmstead and Bailey Ursel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Chilhowie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. David St. Clair officiating. Burial followed in the Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Chilhowie United Methodist Church. Flowers were appreciated or donations can be made to the Chilhowie United Methodist Church, PO Box 367, Chilhowie, VA 24319. Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie, was in charge of arrangements.
