Smith William "Alfred" Smith, 68, of Dalton, Ga., died on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer C. Smith, two sons, Richard M. Smith and Vincent Smith, brother, Roger Lee Smith, and a sister, Linda Ackers. He was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church and was employed by Mohawk Industries for 46 years. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Mae S. Smith of the residence; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki and Michael Richardson of Rocky Face and Kaitlyn Smith of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Lesia Smith of Chatsworth; mother, Clara Mae Smith of Rural Retreat; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Dean Widner, Becky and James Lane, all of Rural Retreat, and Janice and Garland Jones of Trenton; brothers, Bob Smith of Rocky Face and David and Sandy Smith of Max Meadows; grandchildren, Ashley Richardson, Laci Smith, Shannon and wife, Stephanie Smith, Ivan Motley, Justin Motley and Anna and Rickie Smith; and nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted Sunday, Oct. 3, at 2:30 p.m. at Deep Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Kidd and the Rev. Travis Martin officiating. Burial was in Deep Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Richardson, Brian Smith, Roy Duckett, Allen Kendrick, Mike Murphree and Tommy Hicks. Honorary pallbearer was Danny Watkie. The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4 until 9 p.m. Julian Peeples Funeral Home, Pleasant Grove Chapel, Dalton, was in charge of arrangements.
