Combs, Venice - Xenia  
XENIA - Venice "Vince" Combs, age 81, of Xenia, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Alphie Combs; brothers, Cletis and J.B. Combs; sister, Myrtlee Childers, and daughter, Donna Caudill. Vince is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie Combs; son, Doug (Elizabeth) Combs; grandchildren, Travis and Chad Caudill, Katharine Combs; great grandchildren, Jay, Macie, Chase, and Calley Caudill; brothers, Thurl and Elwood Combs, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. He retired from GM after 38 years of service and was a traveling Bluegrass entertainer. He was well loved by many and will be dearly missed. Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the funeral home with burial following at Beaver Cemetery, Beavercreek. Davis, Betty - Cedarville  
CEDARVILLE - Betty L. Davis age 78, of Cedarville, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born April 28, 1937 in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of Glenn and Hazel (Duncan) Whitacre. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers: Robert and Donald Whitacre. Betty married Earl N. Davis when she was just 15 years old, and he survives; as do their four children: Kathy (James) Lairson; Earl Jr. "Bud" Davis; and Lester Glenn (Brenda) Davis; all of Cedarville; and Donna Maxwell of Jamestown; brother: Ronald "Skeet" (Reedi) Whitacre of Xenia; 8 grandchildren: Betsy (Geoff) Hovan; Christopher (Rachael) Lairson; Michael (Clarissa) Lairson; Phillip (Megan) Davis; Nate (Marie) Rains; Brittany Maxwell; Tommy (Jennifer) Finlay and Nelson (Ashley) Maxwell; 12 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. She also leaves her beloved dog, April. Betty had worked as an Aide at Hospitality Home in Xenia. She was a former member of the Fairborn Fire Dept. Women's Auxiliary and the Old Timer's Club. She was also a member of the North Side Christian Church. Betty will be remembered as a good cook who also enjoyed canning. A celebration of her life will be held 11 AM Thursday, July 30th at North Side Christian Church, 733 Country Club Drive, Xenia with Pastor Andrew Johnson officiating. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc., 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Betty's memory. Dursma, James - Fairborn  
FAIRBORN - USAF SMSgt. (Ret.) James Gordon Dursma, age 77 of Fairborn, passed away Saturday July 25, 2015 in the Hospice of Dayton. He was born November 14, 1937 in Andover, South Dakota, the son of the late Eugene and Cleone (Pew) Dursma. James served his country during Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force, retiring at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant; and followed with employment in civil service at Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring after over 45 years of combined federal service. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 526, VFW Post 6861, and Moose Lodge 1068, all of Fairborn; and his hobbies included bowling, darts, woodworking, puzzles, and reading. He is survived by three children, Cathy (Stacey) Kinnin, James, Jr. (Amy Neuberger) Dursma, Jacqueline Garner; four grandchildren, Corey (Danyelle) Kinnin, Kelly (Alyssa) Kinnin, Derek Dursma, Steven Dursma; a great-grandson, Drew Kinnin; seven siblings, Ralph, Gerald, Sharon (Paul), Marla, Robert, Gloria, Linda; former wives, Phyllis Sievers, Betty Jean Dursma; special friends, Jeanie Beatty, Teresa (Geoffrey) Johnson and son, Jaxon Stacy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A gathering of family and friends will be held on (Today) Tuesday July 28, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. Burial will be held in Tahoma National Cemetery near Seattle, Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Edmondson, Elizabeth - Xenia  
XENIA - Elizabeth P. Edmondson, age 93, of Xenia, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 17, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Greenville, Virginia on December 20, 1921 the youngest of eight children born to Junius and Mamie (Ross) Perry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters and her husband, Wilhelm Edmondson. She is survived by her children: Wayne Sr. (Inez) Edmondson of West Chester, OH; and Ursula (Charles) Williams of MD; 2 grandchildren: Wayne Jr. (Jamie) Edmondson and Warren (Lynn) Edmondson and 8 great grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and friends. Mrs. Edmondson was retired from the Dayton Public School System, where she had been a long-term substitute teacher. She received her Bachelor's degree from Bluefield State University in West Virginia. She was an active member of the First United Christian Church in Xenia, being a Deaconess of the Church, Sunday School Teacher and singing in the choir. She had also been a Girl Scout Leader. Mrs. Edmondson was the 1st Recipient of Xenia's "Hospitality Award." The City of Xenia also recognized her 90th Birthday by declaring December 20, 2011 "Elizabeth Edmondson Day." She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed and will always be loved and remembered. Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, July 23rd at First United Christian Church, 626 N Columbus St, Xenia, OH with Dr. Edgar A. Wallace officiating. She will be interred next to her husband at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Xenia. Friends may visit Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service at the church. Grooms, Laura - Jamestown  
JAMESTOWN - Laura Lee Grooms left this world to join her heavenly Father and family members on Monday July 13, 2015. She was born to the late Neil Eugene Grooms and Frances May Stevens Starling on January 22, 1956. She is survived by her mother; daughter, Chrystal Mcfadden of Cincinnati and step-daughter, Tiffany Christoph of Cincinnati; grandchildren: Cherokee Hendershot, Damian Crook Stevens, Chandler McFadden, Harlee Hughes, Darrin (D.J) Hughes and Aaleeyah Hughes and Jacynda Patton; one great- grandchild, Persephaine Hendershot and another on the way, Adrian Hendershot. Also survived by a brother, Dale Grooms of Spring Valley and a sister, Tina Schreiber of Chillicothe; two nieces, two nephew, six great-nieces and two great-nephews. She also leaves behind her best friend, her Maltese, Sinker. She was a nurse, until becoming disabled. She was a strong animal advocate. She was a devoted donor to the Ohio SPCA. Laura loved nature, her crafts and doing for others, but most of all she loved God and her family. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, aunts and uncles. JAMESTOWN - Charlotte R. Hill (Chatty), 79, of Jamestown, Ohio passed away July 21, 2015 at Liberty Nursing Center in Jamestown, Ohio. She was born in Rush, Ky on November 16, 1935 to Bryant Jennings and Laura (Blythe) Moore. Charlotte is survived by her three children: Bill (Cathee) Robertson of West Carrolton, Ohio, Rick (Diane) Robertson of Troy, Ohio, and Stephanie (Chris) Delaney of Jamestown, Ohio; 10 grandchildren: Krista Long, Jason (Jenelle) Robertson, Rick Robertson, Jr., Michael (Heather) Robertson, Shari (Chris) Kern, Mark (Beth) Robertson, Sharla (Bevan) Pyle, Angie Conley, Shala (Danny) Applegate, and Megan Andrejcio (Rick Bleem) and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Bryant and Laura Moore, and siblings Charles Moore, Minnie Sue Brainard, Eunice Chapman and Douglas Moore. JAMESTOWN - Tammy Marie Holley age 52, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Greene Memorial Hospital. She was born February 3, 1963 in Xenia, Ohio, the daughter of David and Margaret Louella (Jandrew) Younker. She was preceded in death by a brother: Timothy Younker. In addition to her parents, Tammy leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Mark Allen Holley, whom she married May 25, 2008; son: Blake McClellan; step children: Tim (Marissa) Holley; Heather (Dominic) Ackerman; Ashley (Keith) Pierson; 8 step grandchildren; brothers: Michael (Amy) Younker of Sabina; and Bill Younker of Jamestown; a sister-in-law: Lori Younker of Gahanna; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Howard, Cynthia - Cedarville  
CEDARVILLE - Cynthia A. Howard, age 60, of Sabina passed unexpectedly on July 21, 2015, in Orlando, Florida. She was born May 16, 1955 to the late Albert and Georgia Chandler. Cynthia graduated from Cedarville High School and was an avid antique collector with a love of anything with chickens. She is survived by her loving husband, Homer B. Howard, Jr.; sons, Justin Roy and Dustin Jorge Howard, all of Sabina; step-son Homer B. Howard, III (Diana) and step-daughter, Connie Howard, all of Chillicothe. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Brandon Mustard, Whitney Howard, Tyler Howard, and Maddie Howard; great- grandchild, Isabella Mustard; and mother in-law, Nellie Howard. Family will receive friends on Monday, July 27, at the Powers-Kell Funeral Home in Jamestown, from 10-12, when a funeral service will begin at 12:00 NOON. Burial to follow in Silvercreek II Cemetery. Mason, Willie - Xenia  
XENIA - Willie Lee Mason, 87 of Xenia, passed away early Sunday morning at Hospice of Dayton. He was born June 8, 1928 in Middlesboro, Kentucky, the son of Elbert & Isabelle (Daniels) Mason. He retired after 30 plus years on the Pennsylvania Railroad where he was a brakeman. Willie Lee was a gentle and loving person. He loved his family, faith, nature and the game of golf. He was such an accomplished golfer, that he was one of only a very few that could still shoot his age on the course. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bobbie Jane (Poore) Mason; children Ronda (Ron) Baudendistel, Larry (Diana) Mason, Les (Beverly) Mason; a sister Cleo Mason; three brothers Bobby Mason, Eugene Mason and Elbert Mason, Jr. ; five grandchildren, Carie (Brian) Kahlig, Kris Baudendistel, Kevin (Christina) Mason, Lori Baudendistel, and Evan (Christine) Mason; four great grandchildren ,Ethan Mason, Ava Kahlig, Nora Kahlig and Phoebe Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ruby Mason Brown and Mary Frances Mason. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc., 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia with Rev. Melvin King of the Harmony Baptist Church, Riverside officiating. Friends may call from 10 AM Thursday until the service time at the funeral home.
