Ione LeMay King

Ione LeMay King died peacefully November 11, 2013, at the Dayton VA Hospice Center after a long illness. Ione, the daughter of Sophia and Albert Schroeder, was born in Grace City, ND, on February 4, 1927. She graduated from the Saint Joseph School of Nursing and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army in 1948. Ione served in the Army Nurse Corps at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA and the 377th Evacuation Hospital in New York.
After retiring from the military, Ione continued her nursing career including work at Greene Memorial Hospital and Heather Greene Nursing Home in Xenia. Ione is survived by her husband Robert King of Spring Valley, two sons, Loren A. (Janet) Anderson Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, and Charles K. (Sandra) Anderson of Bend, OR. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Loren Andrew, Zachary, Michael, Rachel, Matthew, and Benjamin, and one great-grandchild, Alana. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ione was a long time resident of Spring Valley, Ohio where she was very active in the community. She served on the Greene County Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association and as a Volunteer at the Dayton VA Hospital. She served as the first woman commander of the South Park American Legion Post 675 in Dayton Ohio. She was inducted into the Green County Women's Hall of Fame. Ione's remains will be donated to the Wright State University Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial service for Ione will be held at 11AM on November 23, 2013 at the Spring Valley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Ione's name to the Dayton VA Hospice Center 4100 W. Third Street Dayton, OH 45428 (attention Rhonda Allen-Garry) to help those who served.
