Jerry William "Bill" Humphreys age 80, of Xenia and formerly of Springfield, Ohio went to be with our Lord, Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Dayton VA Facility, Victory Ridge Hospice. Prior to his illness he resided at the Hillside Assisted Living in Xenia. He was born January 29, 1933 in Coalton, OH, the special son of Jerry Humphreys and Kathryn Miller Christian, weighing only 1 1/2 pounds. He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife, Mary Carol Worley Humphreys, 8 brothers and sisters: Lewis (Marie) Humphreys; Tom (Deloris) Humphreys; Frank (Josephine) Humphreys; Betty Ann (Art) Piatt; Irene Taylor; Wylodine Combs; Kathryn Filsinger; and Wanda (Cletus) McGinnis. Bill is survived by his daughter, Renee (Greg) Keirn; a grandson: Christopher; first wife, Phyllis Bowermaster Humphreys all of Xenia; sister: Helen Adkins of Chillicothe, OH and formerly of Jackson, OH; brothers: Samuel (Betty) of Marion; and Robert (Karen) Humphreys of Jackson; brothers-in-law: Dr. William Filsinger of Las Vegas, NV; Lee Taylor of Springfield; sister-in-law: Janice and Charles Strausburg of Xenia; step-sons: James William Worley; Chuck Worley and Rick (Valerie) Worley; 3 step-grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. He retired after 30 years with Kelsey Hayes, Springfield. He served in the US Air Force
during the Korean Conflict
, and received the following medals: Korean, United Nations, Good Conduct and National Defense. He was a proud veteran, lifetime member of the VFW
Post 1031 Springfield; and the DAV. He also previously attended Xenia First Church of the Nazarene and Cedarville Church of God. Bill was very special from the day he was born into this family becoming a loving uncle, brother, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many. Funeral services will be held 12:30 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2103 at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia with Lee Taylor officiating. Interment with military honors to follow in the National Cemetery, Dayton. Family and friends may call from 11 AM Tuesday until the time of service at the funeral home.
