Karl Eugene Benson, age 81, of Xenia, Ohio passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home. Karl was born in Spring Valley, Ohio on August 17, 1931, the son of Granville Moses Benson and Rose Marie (Carson) Benson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his infant sister, Doris, his infant son Patrick Kyle and his brother, James Edward Benson. Karl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Ann (Sturgeon) Benson, children Stephen Kent (Marla) Benson, Karla Sue (Lee) McKinney, Judith Ann (Randy) Straw and David Ashley (Michelle) Benson. He is also survived by his sister Nancy Ellen Dinnen of Cedarville, Ohio and sister-in-law Mary Jane Benson of Sidney, Ohio. Karl was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Matthew Kenton, Rebecca Sue, Rachael Christine, Ann Marie, Stephen Karl, Ashley Alyssa, Derek Todd, Randi Lee and Leslie Jo, and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force
and served in Italy during the Korean conflict
. He was a career law enforcement officer and security professional serving as a Patrol Officer for the Xenia Police Department, as the Chief of Police for Cedarville, as Assistant Chief of Security for Antioch College and as Chief of Security for the Ohio Veterans Children's Home. A memorial service will be held at A House of Prayer, 282 Stelton Road, Xenia on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 7 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge nephew Gary Lee Johnson for his care and support as well as Hospice of Miami Valley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami Valley.
