Leo J. Fritz

XENIA Leo J. Fritz, 89, of Xenia, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Elmcroft Assisted Living. He was born August 10, 1923, in Siberia, Indiana, the son of Joseph John and Rose Schlachter Fritz. He was raised on a farm in Siberia the 13th of 17 kids, seven of whom died before the age of 10, and three became nuns. Leo was the last of seventeen Fritz children. He was a member of St. Brigid Church since 1956, and was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving as a B-24 and B-25 gunner in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired from WPAFB after 37 years, where he was a printer. He was a long-time volunteer at the Xenia Adult Recreational Center. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. (Susan) Fritz, Bowie, MD, two grandchildren, Diana (Fritz) Jackson, Kigali, Rwanda, and Jennifer Fritz, Salisbury, MD, two great-grandchildren, Larry Robert Jackson and Michael Joseph Jackson, numerous nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Chlorus Irene Fritz, on July 22, 2008, and by sixteen brothers and sisters. Leo will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Friday, August 9, 2013, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. John Krumm officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 10am Friday, August 9, until service time at St. Brigid Church. Private graveside services will be held in St. Martin Cemetery, Siberia, Indiana.
