Marlene Manley

XENIA — Marlene Clark Manley, 78, passed away after a long illness on February 10, 2014 at Liberty Nursing Center in Xenia. She was born April 7, 1935 in Olympia, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nettie Rothwell Powers; her step-dad, Robert (Art) Powers; and her father, Clay Clark. On April 10, 1954 she married Charles Manley. They have resided in Xenia since 1958. She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty years, Charles; a daughter Janet Manley; sons Brent Manley and Mark Manley; and son and daughter in law Kevin and Kirsten Manley; special people adopted into the Manley family, Kevin and Kristen Hurley and their children, Luke and Katie. Marlene loved great music and spent many years supporting her children and their students at their numerous concerts and musicals. Marlene was a member of Xenia Westminster Presbyterian Church. Prior to joining Westminster she served on many committees and/or provided childcare at Xenia First Church of God and Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene. In addition to her work at home and church, many children will remember growing up in her care as their babysitter: Christy Spinks, Danny Clark, Beth Birney, Melissa Rice, Jeff, Jim, and Jason Mahan, Corey Allen, and Michael Byrd. In an era of great homemakers, Marlene was extraordinary. She had the gift of hospitality and prepared and served wonderful meals to family, friends, and acquaintances. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Liberty Nursing Center and Hospice of Dayton. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 990 Old Springfield Pike, Xenia, Ohio 45385 with Rev. Brian Maguire and Rev. Andrew Clark officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be held in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
