Marvie L. West Sr. 95 passed from labor to reward on Tuesday September 17 after a short illness at his home in Xenia. Marvie was born June 20, 1918 in Springfield, Ohio to the parents of Dr. Motty S. West and Hattie Myrtle Ellis. He grew up in Bellbrook and Springfield and then moved to Cedarville to complete his High School Education. While in Cedarville he met the love of his life June Willis and they were married 69 years. Marvie worked for Armentrout Excavating before starting his own business named Marvie West & Sons Asphalt and Paving. After selling the business he worked at Carboline Paint Company where he retired at age 62. Marvie was a lifelong member of the AME church where he attended St Paul AME in Cedarville then moved to St John AME which merged with First AME and became United AME in Xenia. Marvie believed that the talents God gave him were for Service to God, Church and Community. Marvie and June loved to travel and they owned several campers and traveled to every State in the United States except Alaska. One of the things the Grandkids loved most was when they turned 6 they were allowed to go camping with Grandpa and Grandma. Marvie was preceded in death by his parents and his son Eric, a Grandson Shawn Smith, and brothers Joseph, Raymond, Thomas, and Vernon West, and sisters, Daisy Austin, Dorothy Hall, and Martha Melton. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years June Willis West and Sister Ruth Coffey he is also survived by his Children Jan Smith of Xenia, Marv West (Beryl) of Gahanna, Ohio, Frank West (Michele) of Effingham, Illinois, Gary West (Shanda) of St Louis, Missouri. He's also survived by 10 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening September 24th from 6 to 8 PM at United AME Church, 286 East Church Street, Xenia Ohio 45385. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at United AME Church. Burial be will at Massie's Creek Cemetery, Cedarville, Ohio. Services entrusted to Porter Qualls Dunlap Funeral Home.
