William Wright

FAIRBORN — William R. "Bill" Wright, age 80 of Fairborn, passed away Thursday May 1, 2014. He was born April 25, 1934 in Fostoria, OH, the son of the late William S. and Mildred E. (McCombs) Wright. Bill attended Bowling Green High School and was a graduate of Bowling Green State University, Class of 1959. He served his country in the US Army; and followed with the Toledo Air National Guard and was activated during the Berlin Crisis. Bill was employed in civil service at Wright-Patterson AFB as a computer programmer for the Air Force Logistics Command, retiring in 1995 after 36 years of combined federal service. He was a member and trustee of Fairborn Amvets Post 444; member of American Legion Dignam-Whitmore Post 526, Fairborn, Fairborn Moose Lodge 1068, and International Order of Odd Fellows Mad River Lodge 243. Bill had a life-long love of music, having first serenaded his future wife, Audrey, on his steel ukulele. He was a member of the BGSU Men's Choir; and was always happy to sing while Audrey accompanied him on piano. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Ellen von Alven and husband Ray of San Rafael, CA. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Audrey of Fairborn; two sons, Steve of Fairborn, Mike and wife Joy of Enon; a sister, Sue Wulff and husband Lindsey of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, William and Amanda; as well as nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 6, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Craig Fourman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the time of service. Interment with military honors will follow in the Byron Cemetery.
