XENIA — Hugh M. Howey, 79, of Xenia, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Friends Care Center, Yellow Springs. He was born May 3, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was raised in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the son of Hugh McDonald and Margaret Callahan Howey. He was an active member and deacon of Memorial United Presbyterian Church, and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service, and was employed by the Xenia City Schools until he retired. He was the chaplain of American Legion Post #95 and a member of VFW Post # 2402. Hugh's passion was auditing courses at Cedarville University for many years. He is survived by his wife, Linda G. (Lawwill) Howey, a daughter and son-in-law, Diane Margaret (Terence) Johnson, Xenia, a son and daughter-in-law, Hugh Melvin (Luzmila) Howey, WPAFB, by three grandchildren, Erin Johnson, Ian Johnson, and Hugh Chad Howey, three step-grandchildren, Richard Ingram, Brianna Ingram, and Travis Ingram, two step-great-grandchildren, by several nieces and nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-mother, Flossie Howey, an infant daughter, Denise Howey, and by a step-brother, Fred Ricketts. Hugh will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Memorial United Presbyterian Church, 343 W. Ankeney Mill Rd., Xenia, with Rev. Kelley W. Shin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am Saturday, until service time at the church. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
