SPRING VALLEY Robert T. Melvin, 84, of Spring Valley, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 8, 2013, at his home. He was born September 15, 1928, in Spring Valley, the son of Virgil E. and Leva Marie (Waldren) Melvin. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He worked at Dri-Rite and retired from the WPAFB Civil Engineering Department. He was a life-long resident of Spring Valley and a graduate of Spring Valley High School and member of the basketball team. He knew Spring Valley history like no other and was proud to share stories and pictures with family and friends. A sports enthusiast and good athlete, he loved auto racing, Indian motorcycles, table tennis, fishing, and most of all spending time with family and friends. He is survived and will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn (Morgan) Melvin, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tim (Teresa) Melvin and Jonnie Melvin, of Spring Valley, three grandchildren, Amy Melvin, Chicago, IL, Joe Melvin, Spring Valley, and April (Rossi) Caserta of Centerville, two great-grandchildren, Alexandria Caserta and Max Malcolm, a sister, Ruth Bonecutter, Spring Valley, four nephews, Rocky (Kris) Bonecutter, Brett (Tina) Bonecutter, all of Spring Valley, Randy Melvin, Cedarville, and Rex (Tracy) Melvin of Xenia, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and by many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald Melvin, and by a brother-in-law, Sherman Bonecutter, Jr. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. Nathan White officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 noon Wednesday, until service time. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery.
