ROSS TOWNSHIP Alvin L. Newell, 76, of Xenia, passed away suddenly Friday, December 7 in his home. He was born in Ross Township the son of Pearl P. and Lois (Calvert) Newell. Alvin graduated from Ross High School in 1954, the last graduating class. He retired from Sunoco after 38 years where he was a truck driver for 35 1/2 of those years with many safe driver awards. He married Peggy Ary on July 22nd, 1960. Alvin enjoyed time with family and friends. He loved traveling to Amish Country several times a year and visiting family and friends in Virginia. He loved to attend sporting events and activities of his grandkids. Alvin was a member of First Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vernon; a brother-in-law, David Perry. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 52 1/2 years, Peggy (Ary) Newell. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Bruce & Julie Newell and Brian & Stacy Newell, both of Xenia. He was a proud grandpa to four grandchildren: Austin, Travis, Abby and Adam Newell. He is survived by three sisters: Joyce Perry of Xenia, Jo Ann (Bill) Morneault of Humble, Texas and Wanda (Charles) Vaughn of Miamisburg; two brothers: Richard (Doris) Newell of Gladstone and R. Lamar (Susan) Newell of Springfield. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 12th at 10 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, 441 Ledbetter Rd. with Dr. Andrew Spencer officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 11th from 5-8 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Silvercreek Cemetery in Jamestown, Ohio.
