XENIA Dorothy Anne Keene, age 80, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the home of her daughter, Rita, following a lengthy illness. Anne was born June 9, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter James and Dorothy Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Thomas Alwell; second husband, James Keene; and siblings: Peggy, Helen, Sharon, Joan, David and a special niece: Melanie.
She is survived by siblings: Jim (Glenda); Larry; John (Suphit); Cathy, and special niece, Jacqueline Parlato. She is survived by children: Doraine, Thom, Rita (Steve), Susie (Dain), Rob and Karen; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and her life-long friend, Joan Heusel of Middle Island, New York.
A hard worker her entire life, Mrs. Keene retired after many years in retail sales. She also served as a volunteer for many local organizations, including Greene Memorial Hospital, The Greene County Historical Society, the local food pantry, and Faith Community United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to extend great appreciation to the many individuals and organizations who assisted Anne in her time of illness and passing: family physician, Dr. John Donnelly; the Greene County Council of Aging (Lynn Martin, social worker); The Hospice of Dayton; and the following Hospice of Dayton staff members who through their untiring compassion and expertise, provided comfort to Mrs. Keene in her last months of life: Linda Gault, Holly Liming, William Sangrey, Lori Jeffery, Sabina Madrid, Nichole Ponder, Tammy Von Berge, Amy Green, Bob Westendorf and many others.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to The Hospice of Dayton (hospiceofdayton.org).
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, August 26th at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Interment to follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
