GREENE COUNTY Eugene Leroy Berg passed away April 5, 2013, in Greene County Ohio.
Born February 15, 1938 in Rogers County, Oklahoma to Reuben Peter Berg of Marion County Kansas and Gertrude L. Strauss Berg of Hamilton County, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy V. Lowder Berg, a sister Anna Mae Ratliff and brother in law Edward Ratliff of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a brother Alvin D. Berg and sister in law Mary Louise Berg of El Paso, Texas, a brother in law William M. Lowder of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a sister in law Mary Y. Buehrle and brother in law David Buehrle of Dayton, Ohio; Seven nieces and nephews, Denise Ratliff Rakovics, Stephanie Ratliff Rydesky, Walter Ratliff, Elizabeth Berg Calkins, Tina Berg Norman, Daniel Berg, and Pamela Denise Lowder Sharp, in addition to seventeen great nieces and nephews.
"Gene", as he was known by his friends, grew up on a farm near Inola, Oklahoma with deep roots in the Mennonite Brethren community being baptized at the age of twelve.
In 1950 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they became members of The Beams of Light Tabernacle. The church was the center of family activities.
In his senior year of high school his father became disabled with Parkinson's disease and Gene took on the financial responsibilities of the family.
In 1958 he enlisted in the US Air Force, he served in the Philippines before being assigned to Wright Patterson AFB. Upon completion of his service obligation he continued working as a computer programmer at WPAFB.
Funeral service will be held 10 AM Tuesday, April 9th at the McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit Street, Xenia, officiated by Pastor Ron Swiger, First Assembly of God. Interment to follow in Granny Thomas Cemetery, Garrison, Kentucky at 3 PM Tuesday.
