XENIA Frederick Max Collett, age 84, of Xenia, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. He was born in Corvallis, Oregon, the son of British and German immigrants, Percy and Leona Collett. As a young man, Fred spent two years working with missionaries in Kenya, Africa. Upon his return, he settled in Xenia and started the Xenia Construction Company, which he operated from the 1950's until his retirement in the 1990's. Fred served a term as president of the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce and also served as director of the Xenia National Bank and later the Society Bank. He served for many years on the Sugarcreek Twp. Zoning Board of Appeals. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 95. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 55 year member of the Antioch Shrine. His lifetime passion was aviation. The first entry in his logbook was at the age of 16 and the last was entered at age 72. He was an avid skier and enjoyed many trips to the Rockies and the Alps. He was a past president of the Dayton Ski Club and of the Ohio Valley Ski Council. He enjoyed the antique auto hobby and toured extensively with the Antique Automobile Club of America. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Robert and Thomas Collett. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol; son: Michael (Mildred); grandsons: Michael and Jayson (Krista); great-grandchildren: Hayden, Daphne and Alayna, all of Xenia; sisters: Margaret (Larry) Holley of Orient, Ohio and Ruth Hatfield of Daytona Beach, Florida. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Friday, December 14, 2012 at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Interment to follow in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia.
