FAIRBORN — Jay Richard Smith, 82, formally of East Liverpool,died May 10, 2014 at Heartland of Beaver Creek in Beaver Creek Ohio. Richard was born on April 6, 1932 a Son of the late Jay P. and Laura M (Thomas) Smith having lived most of his life in the area, he was a Graduate of East Liverpool Class of 1950 and attended Youngstown State University. Richard was a payroll master for MacIntosh Hemphill for 30 years, and after its closure was a project cost accountant at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base until his retirement in 1994. Richard was a veteran of the United States Navy Atlantic Fleet, and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Riddle Lodge 315, American Legion, Shiners al Koran Temple 315 , and loved to golf. Richard leaves behind a wife: Shirley M (Craig) Smith, whom he married April 27, 1957; three sons: William S. Smith of Hilliard OH, David C. Smith of Dublin OH, Jerry R. Smith of Xenia OH; a daughter: Diane M. Svoboda of Denver CO; a brother: Wayne Smith of Salem OH; two sisters: Dorothy White and Martha Burgess both of East Liverpool; two grandchildren: Michael Svoboda and Catherine Svoboda as well as several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Wednesday May 14, 2014 at 11 AM with Pastor Terry Baker Officiating. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday May 13, 2014 from 6-8 pm.
